The VAEP has provided veterinary forensic training for 12 equine veterinarians around the state. They have each undergone 12 hours of training in order to be prepared to serve as a resource for animal control officers, Commonwealth Attorneys, and other equine veterinarians involved with welfare cases within the state. They are known as the Virginia Veterinary Equine Welfare Resource (VVEWR). These veterinarians can assist in phone consultations, welfare visits, and/or seizures. We have provided a list of localities that are closest to the veterinarian; however, any of these veterinarians may be contacted. Several other veterinarians are currently finishing their training and will be available to help in the near future.
