    In light of several recent and unrelated strangles outbreaks around the state, Abby Sage, VMD, DACVIM with VDACS has provided the following links for reference and dispersal to your clients. She has also drawn up a handout for your clients of guidelines for quarantine and prevention of spread of disease between farms.

    Check your hay source if you or you clients have recently purchased alfalfa hay from North Carolina, specifically Murphy Farm Hay and Feed in Louisburg, NC and Jones Farm Hay and Feed in Middlesex, NC. Some bales have been contaminated with blister beetles, which contain cantharidin:  http://www.ncagr.gov/paffairs/release/2015/9-15-blister-beetles.htm
